Review Xiaomi Redmi 6

Redmi smartphones have always been famous for their low price and excellent performance. They have acquired a privileged status among people who do not want to overpay for unnecessary functions. Design

Starting with Redmi 3, the devices of this series came out in a metal case. You could say it has become the hallmark of the line. While competitors used cheap plastic, Xiaomi had an aluminum body. The tradition is broken now: the new Redmi 6 is completely made of plastic. Back of Redmi 6 looks similar to Redmi 4A, which was released two years ago. The camera lens with a flashlight is installed in the same way as in the old device.

A 5.45-inch screen occupies most of the front panel. At the top bezel, there is a front camera, a receiver and an LED indicator that can notify you about the missed events.

The rear panel has a dual camera, flashlight, speaker and fingerprint scanner, working quickly and accurately. 

On the right side are the volume rocker and the power button, on the left - tray for two SIM card and separate space for a memory card.

The Micro-USB port and microphone are at the bottom of the device, and the headphone jack is on top.

In comparison with its predecessor, the new smartphone has become noticeably smaller both in width and in height. Redmi 6 fits perfectly in the hand due to rounded edges.

Display

The new phone received a 5.45-inch IPS-display with a resolution of HD + (1440x720) and an aspect ratio of 18: 9. The manufacturer has used the optimal resolution for such a screen size in order to reduce the price and load on the processor, as well as to improve the autonomy.

Display gets 4,52 points.

Hardware

One of the interesting things about Redmi 6 is the new hardware. Qualcomm processors powered the last Xiaomi devices. However, Redmi 6 breaks this tradition, because it uses a MediaTek processor. For some time, the Taiwanese chipset has disappeared from the products of many large manufacturers, but the Helio P22 looks no worse than similar Qualcomm, at least on paper. 

The interface works well, but due to a large number of animations, the processor does not always cope with the smooth rendering. There are freezes when scrolling information in the Play Market, Twitter, Instagram, and some other heavy applications. 

In terms of gaming performance, you can play modern games, but at medium-low settings.

World Of Tanks Blitz: by default, the game starts at low graphics settings. Playing the game at high settings reduces the frame rate to 30–40 fps.

PUBG runs only at low settings. 

We used the option with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM. In addition, there is an option with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM.

The system gave the performance 7,38 points.

Camera

The phone is equipped with a dual rear camera – 12 (main camera) and 5 megapixels (secondary camera). The second module is needed for portrait mode - a photo of the face with a beautiful blur of the background.

The front camera is 5 MP.

The cameras received 6,67 points.

Battery

The capacity of the built-in battery is 3000 mAh (300 mAh less than in the previous model). In combination with the processor and average screen resolution, the Redmi 6 shows a good autonomy.

The system gave the battery 5,38 points.

OS

Redmi 6 runs on MIUI 9.6 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The interface is well known to fans of the company. It has great customization capabilities and many useful features. For example, in a smartphone, you can create a second space - a separate account with its own set of applications, files, and data.

There is a clone app - you can make a copy of any application to use simultaneously two profiles in the messenger or social networks. 

The number of pre-installed software does not exceed reasonable limits. In addition to several MIUI apps, there is Facebook and Microsoft Office Suite. All extra applications can be deleted.

OS gets 9,03 points.

Conclusion

Xiaomi Redmi 6 was supposed to be an upgrade and a replacement for the not too old Redmi 5, but in practice, the model turned out to be just another phone in Redmi series. If you want to try something new, then you can buy this phone.
